EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: “I Silently Tolerated It…” – Usha Nadkarni Shares Why She Was Upset During Pavitra Rishta Audition
Veteran actress Usha Nadkarni, who became a household name with her role in Pavitra Rishta, recently opened up about how she felt when she was asked to audition for the show. In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, the actress revealed that she was angry at first, but still went ahead with the audition because she needed work.
Usha, who played the popular and strong-willed character Savita in Pavitra Rishta, gave a tour of her cozy home during the interview. She also spoke about moments from her personal life and her long journey in the television industry.
Talking about her character in Pavitra Rishta, Usha said, “The role was very layered — she was poor, proud, emotional, loving toward her children, and greedy too. It was a powerful character. I gave it my heart, and people really liked it.”
She shared that Pavitra Rishta is very close to her heart. However, she also remembered feeling upset when she was asked to audition for the show, especially after already working with the same production house — Balaji Telefilms — on other shows like Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan and Kuch Iss Tarah.
“I had done two to three serials with Balaji. For those, I wasn’t even asked to audition. But for Pavitra Rishta, I was suddenly called in to perform a scene that was one-and-a-half pages long. I was really angry,” she recalled.
Still, Usha explained that at the time, she wasn’t getting much work, so she decided to go for the audition anyway. “What could I do? I didn’t have any work then. So, I silently tolerated it, went for the audition, and did my best. And I got the role. That’s how I ended up doing Pavitra Rishta,” she added.
She laughed and said, “My relationship with Balaji became stronger after that. They didn’t call me again later — let’s leave that part — but I built a bond with them.”
Over the years, Usha Nadkarni has been part of many Marathi and Hindi television shows and films. Most recently, she was seen on the cooking reality show Celebrity MasterChef.
