Zahan Kapoor on Black Warrant, his famous surname, and why it took him 12 years to enter Bollywood
Actor Zahan Kapoor, who comes from the legendary Kapoor film family, recently opened up about how his famous last name didn’t make things easy for him. In a candid chat, he revealed that carrying the Kapoor name actually scared him and that it took him 12 years to finally find his place in Bollywood.
“My name and its baggage scared me” – Zahan Kapoor
Zahan, who made his acting debut with the film Faraaz in 2022, is currently being praised for his role in the thriller series Black Warrant. Despite coming from a film family—he’s the grandson of legendary actor Shashi Kapoor—Zahan said his journey into the industry wasn’t smooth.
In a conversation with Filmfare, he spoke honestly about the pressure of nepotism and what it really meant to him. “Nepotism means getting something you didn’t earn, just because of who you are,” he said. “But I was always told not to expect anything just because of my surname. My father was clear—he wouldn’t pick up the phone to get me a role.”
Fear of failure made him work harder
Zahan shared that the pressure of living up to the Kapoor name actually made him nervous. “It scared me so much that I told myself, ‘If I get an opportunity and I’m not ready—if I don’t give it my all—then I’ve failed. It would be a shame on me.’”
He said that while people may think having a big surname makes it easy, that hasn’t been his experience. “Nothing was handed to me,” he said. “It may look easy from the outside, but it took me 12 years to get here.”
His bond with Kareena and Ranbir Kapoor
In an older interview with Bollywood Hungama, Zahan talked about his relationship with cousins Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ranbir Kapoor. He said that while they were always part of the same family, they weren’t very close growing up. The distance was mostly due to age and different lifestyles.
Zahan Kapoor’s journey proves that even with a famous name, success still requires hard work, patience, and a lot of dedication. With Black Warrant, he’s finally getting the recognition he worked so long for.
