Vedan’s Palakkad Concert Turns Chaotic as Stampede Injures 15 People – Here’s What Happened
Popular South Indian rapper Vedan’s concert in Palakkad ended in chaos on Sunday, May 18, after a stampede-like situation broke out, leaving around 15 people injured.
The concert took place at Kotta Maithanam in Palakkad and attracted a huge crowd. According to a report by Mathrubhumi, the venue became overcrowded, and the police had to use force (lathi charge) to control the situation.
Due to the large number of people, the entry gates were closed by 6 PM. But soon after, panic spread and a stampede happened, causing several people to get hurt. They were quickly taken to the nearby district hospital for treatment.
The situation got worse when a fight broke out between the police and the event organizers. Crowd control became difficult, so the authorities closed all the venue gates and redirected traffic to manage the rush.
The concert was planned for the evening, but the crowd was much larger than expected. Earlier that day, Vedan had attended a government event with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The CM warmly welcomed Vedan, which likely increased interest in his concert later that night.
As the crowd grew, many people near the stage began to feel dizzy and had trouble breathing. Medical teams were on standby, and although many were injured, thankfully there were no serious casualties.
Kerala Kaumudi reported that about 15 people were injured in the stampede-like incident.
