Rust Shooting Update: Why Hannah Gutierrez-Reed Must Stay Away from the Victim’s Family After Her Parole
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer involved in the Rust shooting case, has been granted parole. However, one of the key conditions of her release is that she must stay away from the family of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who tragically lost her life on the set.
Gutierrez-Reed was sentenced to 18 months in prison but was released early due to good behavior, according to the New Mexico Department of Corrections. She also completed a drug rehabilitation program during her time in custody.
Now, she is returning to her home in Arizona, where she will serve her parole. As part of the conditions, she is not allowed to contact or meet Hutchins’ family in any way.
There are other rules she must follow while on parole. She needs to find a job within a year, follow a curfew, and she is not allowed to own any guns or weapons. She also has to stay in touch with her parole officer and be regularly monitored.
In the original case, Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for her role in the accidental shooting on the set of Rust, a movie starring Alec Baldwin. Baldwin also went to trial, but he was found not guilty and did not serve time in jail.
Gutierrez-Reed is still trying to appeal her conviction. Meanwhile, production on Rust eventually resumed and was completed with a new cinematographer brought in to finish the film.
