Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya recently reacted to the remake of his famous song Chunari Chunari, which is being recreated for the upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The romantic comedy stars Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde. But what does the original singer think about the remix? His reaction might surprise you.
Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s Reaction
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Abhijeet said that no one informed him about the remake—not even music director David Dhawan. He said,
“They didn’t even have the guts to tell me.”
When asked if it bothered him, the singer replied:
“I don’t care about such small things. I don’t involve myself in them.”
He also added,
“In today’s world, copies are more popular than originals. Only great people know the value of the original. I don’t get into such petty matters.”
He Never Liked the Song Much
Surprisingly, Abhijeet admitted that Chunari Chunari was never one of his favorite songs.
He said, “It was not a great song—never was. I recorded it in a hurry.”
According to him, it was one of those songs where the makers were trying hard to make the lyrics work, not something he considers among his best.
Still, the Song Lives On
Even though he doesn’t count it as a personal favorite, Abhijeet admitted the song has stayed popular over the years.
He said he still hears it being played at weddings and parties even after 25 years.
Chunari Chunari originally appeared in the 1999 hit movie Biwi No.1, and was filmed on Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen. It’s still loved by fans and often goes viral on social media.
