Why Did Deepika Padukone Leave Spirit?
Deepika was reportedly excited to work on Spirit, a film starring Prabhas, and was happy with how her role was written. But things changed quickly. According to reports, Deepika asked for a fixed shooting schedule and a fee of ₹40 crore. However, the makers were only ready to offer ₹20 crore and weren’t agreeing to her schedule requests either.
Things got more complicated when director Sandeep Reddy Vanga reportedly asked her to learn Telugu so she could dub for herself. After failed negotiations, Deepika chose to exit the project. She has now been replaced by actress Triptii Dimri.
What Did Mani Ratnam Say?
While promoting his upcoming film Thug Life, Mani Ratnam was asked about the Deepika-Sandeep controversy in an interview with News18. He strongly supported Deepika, saying her demands were completely valid.
He said, “It’s not just a fair request—it’s an absolute necessity. If someone is in a position to ask for these things, they should. As filmmakers, we must understand and respect that.” He added that such matters should always be considered during casting.
