Renuka Shahane Opens Up About Her Marriage With Ashutosh Rana and Becoming a Mother: “I Got Married Only Because I Wanted Kids”
Renuka Shahane, best known for her role in Hum Aapke Hain Koun, recently spoke about her marriage with actor Ashutosh Rana and her journey into motherhood. She revealed a heartfelt reason behind why she chose to get married — it was because she truly wanted to become a mother and build a family.
❤️ Renuka and Ashutosh’s Love Story
Renuka and Ashutosh dated for three years before getting married in 2001. The couple has been admired ever since for their strong bond and mutual respect. But not many knew that Renuka had a clear reason for tying the knot — she wanted children.
Speaking on Gauahar Khan’s podcast show MaaNoranjan, Renuka opened up about their decision to get married. She said that both she and Ashutosh were doing well in their careers and were happy in their individual lives, so deciding to marry wasn’t easy.
👶 She Wanted a Family
Renuka shared that becoming a mother was her main reason for getting married. She explained,
“I got married only because I wanted kids. I was happy, but I had a strong desire to give my children a stable family life. Ashutosh (Rana ji) is very family-oriented, and I knew he would be the kind of father I wanted for my children.”
🧘♂️ A Marriage Suggested by a Guru
Interestingly, Renuka also revealed that Ashutosh’s spiritual guru played a big role in their marriage. She said,
“The only reason Rana ji married me was because his guru told him to. While we were dating, his guru told him, ‘I have chosen your future wife,’ and it turned out to be me!”
At first, Ashutosh was confused and a little scared, not knowing who his guru meant. When he found out it was Renuka, he approached her mother to express his wish to marry her — something that surprised even her mom, who wondered whether the proposal came from true love or simply because of the guru’s advice.
😕 Dealing With Unwanted Comments After Giving Birth
Renuka also shared an unpleasant experience from after the birth of her first child. A friend of Ashutosh, who was also a doctor, visited her in the hospital. Instead of congratulating her, he told her she needed to lose weight.
She recalled feeling shocked and confused by the comment, especially since she had just given birth and was still adjusting to the changes of new motherhood.
“People don’t tell you what to expect. It was strange — I had just become a mother, and someone was already telling me to lose weight. I didn’t even understand what kind of pressure that was.”

Renuka and Ashutosh got married in 2001 and are now proud parents of two sons — Shauryaman and Satyendra. Over the years, the couple has continued to inspire fans with their strong relationship and loving family.
