New Mom Rubina Dilaik Talks About Being Typecast After Motherhood
In a recent episode of her podcast Kisine Bataya Nahi Season 3, actress Rubina Dilaik had a conversation with fellow actor Sharad Kelkar about how female actors often get typecast after becoming mothers. During their chat, Rubina shared her personal experience and asked if male actors face the same issue after becoming fathers.
Sharad Kelkar explained that while times have changed, male actors have never been typecast like female actors. He mentioned that after women get married and have children, their physical appearance changes, and this often leads to them being offered certain roles. However, Sharad pointed out that many actresses, like Kareena Kapoor Khan and Rubina Dilaik, work hard to get back in shape after having children.
Rubina agreed and revealed that she still receives offers for ‘bhabhi’ (sister-in-law) roles. She said, “Even now, I am offered these types of roles.”
Sharad went on to discuss how the career span of a male actor is often longer than that of a female actor, especially in lead roles. He gave examples of how, in the past, there were few love stories featuring actors in their 30s or 40s. He also noted that TV shows often focus on younger characters, with actors aged 16 to 18 being the norm for many roles.
Despite the physical changes that come with motherhood, Sharad emphasized that with dedication and hard work, actresses can make a successful comeback.
Rubina and Sharad have been close friends for over a decade, and Rubina is also good friends with Sharad’s wife, Keerti. Like every year, Rubina and her husband, Abhinav Shukla, attended the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at Sharad and Keerti’s home.
Although Rubina is currently away from TV screens, she remains busy with her podcast and brand endorsements on social media. Her last TV appearance was as a host on Entertainment Ki Raat Housefull.
