Rajesh Puri Shares Terrifying Story of His Kidnapping in Delhi: How He Escaped
Veteran actor Rajesh Puri, known for his work in television, recently went through a frightening experience. He was kidnapped during a trip to Delhi where he was invited as a chief guest for an event. Here’s the full story of how the actor got trapped in a scam and managed to escape.
In an interview with ETimes TV, Rajesh shared that he received a call from a man named Shivam, inviting him to an event in Delhi, supposedly connected to the government. The event was scheduled for September 8, and Rajesh was even sent Rs 35,000 along with a return ticket for September 9. He was also asked to send photos for the event’s posters and record a speech. Everything seemed legitimate, but Rajesh became suspicious when he didn’t receive an official event invitation.
On the day of the event, Rajesh arrived in Delhi and was picked up at the airport by two men. They drove him in a taxi, but after about an hour, they stopped and moved his luggage to another car. The new car had no license plate, and the driver was wearing a mask. Rajesh started to feel uneasy and questioned them, but they brushed off his concerns.
As they drove towards Meerut, Rajesh’s suspicions grew. He began to talk about his strong connections in Delhi, hoping to make the men uncomfortable. The car eventually stopped at a roadside dhaba (restaurant) about 12 km from Meerut. One of the men then told Rajesh that he had been kidnapped and that there was no event—it was all fake.
Rajesh demanded to be taken back, and after some discussion, the kidnappers agreed to drop him at a border where his brother-in-law came to pick him up. However, later that night, Rajesh received a chilling phone call from one of the kidnappers. The man revealed that their plan had been to take Rajesh to a remote location and demand a ransom of one or two crores. The kidnappers had been misled by someone who claimed that Rajesh owed Rs 35 lakh, but they eventually realized it was a lie.
When asked if he would file a police complaint, Rajesh said his lawyers advised against it, as it could provoke the kidnappers. He expressed his relief at having escaped unharmed and urged everyone to be cautious and verify all details when invited to events.
Rajesh Puri feels fortunate to have survived the ordeal and hopes that by sharing his experience, others can avoid falling into similar traps.
