Coldplay India Concert: Ashneer Grover Responds to Chetan Bhagat’s Criticism

Ashneer Grover Talks About ‘Economic Gap’ After Chetan Bhagat Criticizes Coldplay Ticket Madness: ‘Why is Filling 80K Stadiums Surprising Anyone?’

Chetan Bhagat and Ashneer Grover had an online discussion about the high prices of Coldplay concert tickets. Here’s what they said.

Were you also trying to get tickets for Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres” World Tour in Mumbai? Many excited fans couldn’t get them because tickets sold out in just a few minutes. Some websites are even reselling these tickets for up to Rs 3 lakh! Famous author Chetan Bhagat wondered why people are willing to spend so much on concert tickets. In response, Ashneer Grover explained why the high demand for tickets shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Chetan Bhagat posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) and criticized the rush for Coldplay tickets. He questioned why people are spending so much money. He wrote, “On one side, we hear about Indian salary figures, and on the other, there’s this craze for concert tickets. Who’s paying all this money for tickets? How much of their monthly salary are they spending? Is it just a YOLO (You Only Live Once) thing?”

Ashneer Grover replied, talking about the big gap between rich and poor in India. He also mentioned how more Indians now spend on expensive experiences. Ashneer, who was a judge on “Shark Tank India,” pointed out that many people go to concerts and many students are spending a lot on studying abroad.

He responded to Bhagat, saying, “India is a big country with a lot of differences between rich and poor. So, why is it surprising that an 80,000-seat stadium fills up? Every year, around 800,000 students go overseas, spending about $50,000 each. Plus, since most people who can afford tickets now have phones, they buy them quickly.”

Some people online agreed with Ashneer, saying that many Indians can afford these ticket prices. But others felt it was a waste of money for just a few hours of entertainment.

For those who don’t know, Coldplay will perform at DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 21, 2025. The last time the band performed in India was in 2016.
