Bigg Boss 18 EXCLUSIVE: Chum Darang Shares Why She Joined the Show, Handling Trolls, Meeting Salman Khan, and More
In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, actress Chum Darang talked about why she decided to join Bigg Boss 18. She also shared how she plans to handle criticism during her time on the show.
Why did you join Bigg Boss 18?
I see Bigg Boss as a big opportunity. People will want to know who I am, and through this, they’ll learn that I’m from Arunachal Pradesh. A lot of people don’t know about East India, and it bothers me when they get confused and ask which country I’m from. So, I want to use this show to help clear that up.
In my career, things are going well. You might see me in two big shows next year. Right now, Bigg Boss is a fun challenge for me, and I’m excited to try something new.
Are you short-tempered or calm by nature?
It depends on the situation. If someone is nice to me, I’m nice to them. But if they’re bad to me, I’ll be bad back. I do have a short temper and won’t tolerate disrespect. I don’t disrespect others, so I expect the same in return. But I know I can’t control what others think, so anything could happen inside the house. Disrespect really annoys me, though.
How will you deal with trolls and criticism on social media?
I know that with Bigg Boss, both fame and trolling come together. I accept that it’s normal, and everyone is allowed to have their own opinion. I won’t react too much to it because it’s something I can’t control. Trolling will happen, and no one can change that.
Have you ever met Salman Khan?
I’ve never met Salman Khan, but I’ve grown up watching him on TV. I’m really excited to finally meet and talk to him. It’s a big deal for me!
Are you open to romance inside the Bigg Boss 18 house?
No, definitely not. Unlike other things I’m unsure about, like handling my temper or doing house chores, I’m 110% sure that I won’t be getting into any romantic angles in the show. Sorry to the viewers!
Have you watched Bigg Boss before?
Not really. I’ve seen short clips on social media and some viral videos, but that’s about it. I’m entering the house without much knowledge about the show. Just like everyone else, I’m going in with the mindset to win.
For those who don’t know, Chum Darang gained fame with her role in Badhaai Do, where she starred alongside Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao. She also appeared in Gangubai Kathiawadi with Alia Bhatt and has participated in beauty pageants.
Recently, Chum made headlines after arguing with Shehzada Dhami in the Bigg Boss house. She got upset when he questioned her ethnicity. During the first Weekend Ka Vaar, Rajkummar Rao praised her for her work in Badhaai Do. She also had a big argument with Avinash Mishra, accusing him of not listening to anyone. Their argument got heated, with both exchanging harsh words and almost getting into a physical fight.
