Bigg Boss Controversy: Do Provocative Personalities Inspire Fake Drama for Fame?

Could inviting controversial personalities to Bigg Boss motivate others to create controversies just to get on the show? This raises an interesting question about whether such a strategy might harm the show’s reputation while drawing attention.

Controversial Personalities and Bigg Boss

Over the past 18 years, Bigg Boss has become known for its mix of drama and entertainment. But lately, especially in Bigg Boss 18, it feels like the standard for picking contestants has dropped. Instead of focusing on people from artistic backgrounds, the show now seems to favor those with controversial pasts.

Take Rajat Dalal, for example. He’s a contestant this season, and although his Instagram says he’s a fitness trainer, his history tells another story. He was booked for rash driving after hitting a biker and was even arrested for kidnapping in Ahmedabad. He’s also been in the news for clashing with actor Ajaz Khan and supporting Elvish Yadav in a video controversy.

Then there’s Gunaratna Sadavarte, who is known for his involvement in high-profile legal cases. He led the strike for MSRTC workers in Maharashtra and was arrested in 2022 after protesting outside Sharad Pawar’s residence. Another example is Chandrika Gera Dixit, also known as the Vada Pav Girl, who went viral after standing up to harassment from Delhi officials.

Devoleena Bhattacharjee’s View

Devoleena Bhattacharjee, a former contestant, called out the show’s creators for bringing in such personalities. She posted on social media that the process of getting on Bigg Boss has changed. According to her, these days, causing drama or making a scene in public seems to be a quick way to get selected for the show.

Why Do They Bring in Controversial People?

There are two main reasons producers invite controversial figures. First, these people already have a large following, which helps boost the show’s ratings. Second, it helps keep the show relevant with younger audiences, especially in the age of social media. However, this strategy could backfire, as it might encourage others to create scandals to get on the show.

The Future of Bigg Boss

If the trend of selecting controversial contestants continues, we may see more people creating chaos just to get noticed. And if one of these people wins the show, it might encourage even more to follow suit. Some contestants, like Gunaratna Sadavarte, seem more interested in politics and legal debates than playing the actual game, which raises the question of whether they should be on the show at all.

In my opinion, Bigg Boss producers need to rethink their approach to avoid encouraging people to create intentional drama just to get a spot on the show.
