In the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16, Amitabh Bachchan welcomed Bollywood stars Vidya Balan and Kartik Aaryan, who came to promote their movie Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. During the episode, Amitabh Bachchan took a trip down memory lane and shared his regret of never getting the chance to work with legendary actresses Meena Kumari and Waheeda Rehman.
While chatting with Vidya and Kartik, Amitabh spoke about the 1962 classic Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and mentioned how much he admired Meena Kumari’s performance in the song “Na Jaao Saiyaan.” He said, “I never got the opportunity to work with Meena Kumari ji. In Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, her graceful performance in that song was so captivating that I couldn’t stop watching her.”
Amitabh praised Meena Kumari’s ability to convey emotion while sitting in one place and singing. He also spoke about how long takes were used in films back then, which he felt added to the magic of those scenes. He further mentioned that Waheeda Rehman was one of his favorite actresses, recalling her stunning close-up in the film Pyaasa. That shot, he said, beautifully captured her talent and artistry.
Amitabh also talked about how lighting those shots used to take several takes, unlike the quick-paced filming of today. Vidya Balan and Kartik Aaryan were both mesmerized by his stories. Vidya even joked, saying, “I wish I had been born in that era so I could have been your heroine,” to which Kartik playfully added, “Sir, I’d love to be your heroine too!” (laughs).
The special episode with Vidya Balan and Kartik Aaryan is set to air tonight, October 18.
