EXCLUSIVE: Bigg Boss 17 Star Samarth Jurel Encourages an Eco-Friendly, Animal-Safe Diwali
In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, Samarth Jurel shared his plans for celebrating Diwali with his family and emphasized the importance of eco-friendly and animal-safe celebrations, especially avoiding firecrackers.
Samarth expressed his concern for stray animals affected by fireworks. “I feel bad for the animals, especially since I have four dogs myself. They get scared by the noise, so we keep them inside during the fireworks. I know it’s worse for stray dogs, birds, and other animals—they suffer a lot from the noise and smoke. We often overlook the harm caused to them,” he said.
Samarth encouraged a more sustainable Diwali, pointing out the issues of noise and air pollution. “I have asthma, so I’ve been wearing a mask on Diwali since I was young. With the pollution levels, I recommend everyone wear a mask, whether you’re setting off fireworks or not. It’s safer for you,” he shared.
Last year, Samarth couldn’t celebrate Diwali with his family as he was inside the Bigg Boss house. This year, however, he’s looking forward to spending time with loved ones. “We do a traditional pooja, prepare sweets, and visit friends and family. I don’t enjoy the way Diwali is celebrated in Mumbai with card games and alcohol. For me, Diwali is about being with family,” he said.
Though Samarth admits he’s not a fan of cooking, he enjoys the festive snacks his mom makes, like chakli, matri, khopra, besan chakki, and gulab jamun. “There are usually 10-15 different sweets, and I love them all. Then there’s son papdi—it’s not made for Diwali, but it just gets passed around from house to house,” he joked.
On the work front, Samarth Jurel has been part of shows like Maitree, Udaariyaan, MTV Splitsvilla 14, Bigg Boss 17, and more.
