Mohsin Khan EXCLUSIVE: How the Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai Actor Convinced His Parents to Let Him Pursue Acting
Mohsin Khan, who became a household name after playing Kartik Goenka in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, recently opened up about his journey from engineering to acting. In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla for their segment Behind The Success, Mohsin shared how he convinced his family to support his acting dreams.
Mohsin revealed that his interest in acting began during his engineering days. “I studied electrical engineering. My college was a popular spot for film shoots, and I often saw how shoots were done while giving my exams. I was good at studies and scored 80% in engineering. But after completing my diploma and before starting my degree, I decided to explore acting and began auditioning. That’s where my journey started, though acting had always been at the back of my mind,” he said.
When asked about his family’s reaction, Mohsin shared that coming from a construction business family with no connections in the entertainment world made it challenging. “My father was in construction, and no one in my family had anything to do with acting. I didn’t know anyone in the industry, but I was bitten by the acting bug. I was also interested in direction and writing. One day, Inshallah, I’ll write and direct,” he added.
To convince his parents, Mohsin began making short films with his friends and showed them to his father. “He really liked the short films and was impressed. That became my motivation. Then I auditioned for an advertisement and got selected. That was the turning point,” he shared.
On the professional front, Mohsin gained immense fame as Kartik in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, where his chemistry with Shivangi Joshi was unforgettable. Most recently, he starred in the web series Jab Mila Tu alongside Eisha Singh.
Mohsin’s story shows that passion and persistence can make dreams come true, even when the path seems unconventional.
