Celebrity MasterChef Promo: Faisu Cooks Childhood Favorite, Faces Farah’s Tease

Celebrity Masterchef, Faisal Shaikh, known as Mr. Faisu, shared a special moment from his childhood. He prepared a dish called “Dabba Gosht,” which he used to enjoy with his friends and family between 2008 and 2015.

Faisal explained that when he eats Dabba Gosht at restaurants now, it doesn’t taste the same as it did before.To recreate that original flavor, he decided to make his own version.

Farah Khan, one of the judges, was surprised by his choice of dish. She showed him a picture of his younger self and asked, “Did you ever think you would reach here someday?”Faisal replied that he never imagined such a journey.

Celebrity Masterchef is a cooking competition where celebrities showcase their culinary skills. The show is judged by Ranveer Brar, Vikas Khanna, and Farah Khan. Alongside Faisal Shaikh, other celebrities like Tejasswi Prakash and Gaurav Khanna are also participating.The premiere date and time are yet to be announced.

Dabba Gosht is a traditional dish that combines mutton and noodles, cooked in a spicy masala, topped with fried potatoes and eggs, and baked. It’s a flavorful and hearty meal enjoyed by many.

For those interested in trying this dish at home, here’s a simple recipe:

Dabba Gosht Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams boneless mutton, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 100 grams noodles
  • 2 medium potatoes, cut into round slices
  • 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter)
  • 2 cloves
  • 4-5 black peppercorns
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tablespoons cashew nut powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 medium tomato, cut into round slices
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

1. Marinate the Mutton: In a bowl, mix the mutton cubes with salt, garam masala powder, ginger paste, and garlic paste. Let it marinate for 15-20 minutes.

  1. Cook the Mutton: Add half a cup of water to the marinated mutton and pressure cook for 6 whistles or until the mutton is tender.
  2. Prepare the Noodles: Cook the noodles in boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Fry the Potatoes: Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the potato slices until golden brown. Drain and set aside on absorbent paper.
  4. Prepare the Gravy: In a separate pan, heat ghee and add cloves, black peppercorns, and bay leaf. Sauté for a minute. Add cashew nut powder and sauté until it emits a nice aroma.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Add the cooked mutton with its stock, black pepper powder, and red chili powder to the pan. Simmer on low heat until the gravy thickens.
  6. Add Noodles: Add the cooked noodles and chopped coriander leaves to the gravy. Stir well and adjust seasoning.
  7. Assemble the Dish: Preheat the oven to 150°C. Transfer the mutton mixture into a baking dish. Place the fried potato slices and tomato slices on top. Beat the eggs and pour over the tomatoes.
  8. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until the eggs are cooked to a nice golden layer.
  9. Serve: Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Dabba Gosht.
