Rupali Ganguly vs. Esha Verma: Criminal Defamation Case Brings New Twist
Actress Rupali Ganguly has taken another big step in her legal battle with her stepdaughter, Esha Verma.
Legal Action Escalates
Rupali Ganguly, known for her role in Anupamaa, has filed a criminal defamation case against Esha Verma. This comes after her earlier ₹50 crore civil defamation suit in the Bombay High Court, which had already drawn significant attention. Her lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, confirmed that they are pursuing both civil and criminal actions.
The Allegations
The conflict began when Esha accused Rupali of having an affair with her father, Ashish K. Verma, while he was still married to her mother, Sapna. Esha claimed that Rupali was the reason behind her parents’ separation, alleged that she took her mother’s jewelry, and even accused her of issuing threats. These allegations, shared on social media and through interviews, prompted Rupali to take legal action to defend her reputation.
Lawyer’s Statement
Sana Raees Khan shared, “We have filed a criminal defamation complaint in addition to the civil one. Both legal remedies are being pursued. No one should have to suffer the trauma of public defamation without consequences for the person responsible.”
Court Orders and Esha’s Response
The Bombay High Court recently granted Rupali temporary relief by stopping Esha from making or sharing any defamatory statements about her. Following this order, Esha removed all related posts from her social media accounts and set her Instagram profile to private.
Rupali’s legal team sees this as a positive step. Sana Raees Khan added, “Justice protects against malicious attempts to harm someone’s reputation.”
The court has strictly prohibited Esha and her associates from sharing defamatory content about Rupali on social media, in the press, or any public forum until the case is resolved.
Background
For those unfamiliar, Rupali Ganguly is married to businessman Ashwin K. Verma, and the couple has a son named Rudransh. Ashwin also has two daughters, including Esha, from his first marriage.
This ongoing legal battle has added a dramatic twist to the public life of the celebrated actress.
