Shark Tank India’s Anupam Mittal Reacts to Union Budget 2025: ‘Strong Economies…’

Shark Tank India 4’s Anupam Mittal reacts to big change for the middle class in Union Budget 2025

Anupam Mittal recently shared his thoughts on how a strong economy depends on a thriving middle class, not one that is overburdened with taxes.

Government’s Big Announcement

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that individuals earning up to Rs 12.75 lakh per year under the new tax regime will not have to pay income tax. This decision sparked many reactions from business leaders and entrepreneurs.

Among them was Anupam Mittal, the founder of Shaadi.com and a judge on Shark Tank India. He called this change a “systematic correction”, rather than just a simple tax cut.

Anupam Mittal’s Take on Middle-Class Struggles

In a LinkedIn post, Anupam shared how the middle class has been struggling for years. He wrote,
“Middle-class professionals have always been the government’s punching bag—taxed at every step, squeezed for every rupee. Meanwhile, the ultra-rich find loopholes, and businesses get tax breaks. Every year, we hope for relief in the Budget, but in the end, we hear the same thing: ‘Sorry, no relief for you.’”

Talking about the 2025 Union Budget, Mittal said that this time, there is a major shift. He compared India’s middle-class struggles to those in the US and China, explaining that strong economies grow when the middle class prospers, not when they are overburdened with taxes. According to him, India’s past strategies have been doing the opposite.

He summed up his thoughts by saying,
“You don’t build an economy by making people feel poor. You build it by making them wealthier.”

A Bold Claim About India’s Tax System

Mittal also posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating that this new tax regime could make India almost income-tax-free. He wrote,
“Almost 90% of tax filers in India earn below Rs 13 lakh per year. This means, out of 140 crore people, only 1 crore will actually pay income tax this year. In a way, this makes India nearly income-tax-free.”

Anupam Mittal’s Social Media Presence

Anupam is known for sharing his views on social media. Recently, he also reacted to L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan’s controversial “stare at your wife” remark.
