Shark Tank India 4: Anupam Mittal, Kunal Bahl Slam Pitchers for Twisting Facts

Aap Baat Ghumaiye Mat,’ Says Anupam Mittal as Sharks Slam Pitchers for Confusing Answers on Shark Tank India 4

In the latest episode of Shark Tank India 4 (aired on February 25), things got heated when Anupam Mittal lost his patience with a group of pitchers who lacked clarity about their business. Fellow Shark Kunal Bahl agreed with him, and the contestants faced tough criticism before securing a deal with Ritesh Agarwal.

A Confusing Pitch That Frustrated the Sharks

The first pitch of the episode was from a start-up called Medial, founded by four young entrepreneurs. Their idea? A new social media platform focused on start-ups. But instead of impressing the Sharks, they ended up confusing them.

After the pitchers gave a demo of their platform, Kunal Bahl was quick to point out that their app seemed like a mix of existing social media sites. “You’ve taken good features from everywhere—some Twitter, some LinkedIn, some GitHub…” he said.

Anupam Mittal Loses Patience

Ritesh Agarwal then asked about the platform’s top users. The founders said their user base was growing through paid promotions. But Anupam Mittal wasn’t convinced. “If you start paying people to bring referrals, your numbers will go up, but that’s not real growth. Don’t twist your words,” he said firmly.

As one of the founders continued explaining, Kunal Bahl interrupted and said, “If the answer is no, just say no.” Meanwhile, Anupam Mittal looked completely uninterested in their response.

The pitchers then shared that they had started a section where young entrepreneurs could pitch their ideas, and it received a great response. Hearing this, Kunal Bahl suggested, “Then just focus on that. Become India’s version of Product Hunt.” He explained that a new social media platform needs to offer something unique to stand out.

‘What Exactly Are You Doing?’ – Anupam Mittal

The founders said they were still experimenting with features and testing different strategies. They also mentioned that they raised funds last year.

At this point, Anupam Mittal got frustrated and said, “Brother, what exactly are you doing? Honestly, this feels like a joke. There’s no real business, no proper product, no traction, and no clear use case. You’re trying to be LinkedIn, Twitter, and everything else at once.”

The other Sharks agreed and decided to back out. Namita Thapar also criticized the pitchers, saying their business model wasn’t clear.

Ritesh Agarwal Sees Potential

However, Ritesh Agarwal saw something in them and decided to offer a deal. The founders accepted his offer, but the episode ended on a dramatic note as Agarwal and Anupam Mittal debated the investment decision.
