Popular TV actress Priyanka Chahar Choudhary became a household name after her appearance on Bigg Boss 16. While she won hearts with her bold and unfiltered personality on the reality show, it was her performance in Udaariyaan that truly launched her acting career.
In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Priyanka revealed how she landed the lead role of Tejo Sandhu in Udaariyaan, a show produced by Sargun Mehta and Ravi Dubey.
A Surprise Message from Sargun Mehta
Priyanka shared that she woke up one morning during the COVID-19 pandemic and was casually checking Instagram while sipping her coffee. To her surprise, she saw a message from Sargun Mehta offering her an audition for Udaariyaan.
She recalled, “I was shocked! Sargun Ma’am is such a big name in the Punjabi film industry. When she asked me to audition, I immediately agreed.”
Sargun’s team sent her a script in the afternoon, and even though Priyanka wasn’t prepared, she decided to give it a shot.

Finalized as the Lead in Just a Few Hours!
Priyanka revealed that she received the script at around 1–2 PM, submitted her audition video by 6 PM, and by 10–11 PM, she got the news that she was finalized for the lead role!
She admitted that she couldn’t believe it. Unlike most actors who go through look tests, mock shoots, and meetings with the producers, she was selected purely based on her audition video.
Even after receiving confirmation, she kept asking the makers if it was real. They reassured her and even told her that a promo featuring her would be released soon.
Flying to Chandigarh Alone
Priyanka finally decided to take the leap and flew to Chandigarh alone for the shoot. Even after reaching the set, she still couldn’t believe she had landed such a big role so quickly. But luckily, everything worked out perfectly.
Udaariyaan starred Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, Ankit Gupta, and Isha Malviya in lead roles.
