‘It’s Humiliating’: Shark Tank India 4 Judges Namita Thapar and Kunal Bahl Share Their Experience of Being Bullied for Their Weight
Shark Tank India 4 panelists Namita Thapar and Kunal Bahl recently opened up about their childhood struggles with body shaming and bullying because of their weight. Their emotional confessions came during a pitch for a fitness app, Fitelo, on the latest episode of the show.
Fitelo’s Pitch Inspires a Deep Conversation
On March 5, entrepreneurs Mehakdeep Singh and Sahil Bansal presented their app Fitelo, which focuses on weight loss and overall wellness. Both founders had struggled with their own weight in the past, and that journey inspired them to create this app.
Unlike most fitness apps that only focus on diet or exercise, Fitelo offers a more complete approach. It combines personalized meal plans, workout routines, and lifestyle coaching to help people lose weight in a way that suits them best.
Sharks Get Emotional
During the pitch, Shark Anupam Mittal asked about the company’s financial performance. The founders revealed that Fitelo is growing fast, with a valuation of around ₹110-₹120 crore. However, they admitted they were still working towards making the business fully profitable.
As the discussion went on, the conversation took a personal and emotional turn.
Kunal Bahl Shares His Painful Childhood Experience
Shark Kunal Bahl opened up about his own struggles with weight loss. He shared:
“I have struggled with my weight since childhood. When I was 17, I weighed 112 kgs. People didn’t call me by my name, they just called me ‘mota’ (fat). Those who have never experienced this won’t understand how painful it is. It’s humiliating.”
Namita Thapar Also Opens Up About Bullying
Shark Namita Thapar also shared her own experience of being bullied at school. She revealed that classmates would call her ‘moti’ (fat) instead of her real name. This deeply affected her self-esteem and led her to struggle with emotional eating for many years.
The Deal
Moved by the pitch and the personal experiences shared, Sharks Vineeta Singh and Namita Thapar decided to invest in Fitelo. They offered a deal of ₹1.5 crore for 1% equity and a 1% royalty until their investment was fully recovered. The founders happily accepted the offer.
This episode of Shark Tank India 4 was not just about business—it was a powerful moment of sharing struggles, overcoming challenges, and supporting a meaningful cause.
