Terence Lewis Makes a Shocking Revelation About Reality Shows: ‘We Are Told To…’
Famous choreographer Terence Lewis, who has been a judge on many popular dance reality shows, recently spoke to Pinkvilla in an exclusive interview. He shared some surprising details about how reality shows actually work. Terence revealed that while the dance performances and judgments are real, many other moments on these shows are scripted to create entertainment for the audience.
Reality Shows Are Scripted?
During the interview, Terence was shown an old picture of himself dancing with Deepika Padukone on Dance India Dance Li’l Masters, when she came to promote Chennai Express. Reacting to it, he shared that moments like these are planned by the show’s team.
He explained, “People think we judges want to dance with celebrities, but that’s not the case. We are told to create a moment (laughs). So when you ask, ‘Are things scripted?’ Yes, some parts are. The interactions with guests and contestants are planned. However, the dance, the judging, and the talent itself are completely real.”
Creating TV Moments for TRP
Terence also shared that during reality shows, he is sometimes shown helping actresses onto the stage. He made it clear that this is completely scripted. “I would never do that on my own. In eight years of judging, I have never gone and invited a contestant or guest onto the stage like that.”
He further revealed that during India’s Best Dancer, the creative team asked him to create a special moment for higher TRP ratings. At first, he didn’t agree with the idea, but later, when the episode aired, he was shown how the viewership spiked during those moments.
Terence admitted, “It’s sad to say, but the highest increase in viewership happens when we do all this fun stuff. So, in a way, it’s the audience’s fault too because they enjoy it. That’s why it is scripted.”
