Anupamaa’s Manish Goel Slams TRP Rating System: ‘Unfair and Oversimplified

Anupamaa Actor Manish Goel Feels TV Shows Shouldn’t Be Judged Only by Weekly TRPs; Calls the System Unfair

Manish Goel, a well-known face in the TV industry and currently seen in the hit show Anupamaa, has shared his thoughts about how TV shows are judged based on weekly TRP ratings. In a recent interview, the actor said this system feels unfair and is disheartening, especially for the teams who work hard on these shows.

“Shows Need Time,” Says Manish Goel

Manish, who has been part of shows like Kyunki Saas Maa Bahu Beti Hoti Hai, said in a conversation with Bombay Times,

“These days, shows are often shut down within just a few months. It’s really upsetting because the whole team suffers. My simple suggestion is — give every show at least six months to connect with viewers. Judging a show’s success based on just one week’s TRP is not right.”

Change in TV Content, But More Can Be Done

The actor also praised how Indian television has grown in terms of storytelling, especially with strong and unique roles for women — from astronauts to chefs. However, he also questioned why male-focused stories are not being explored much these days.

Talking about his current role in Anupamaa, Manish said he is happy with it. He added that male-led shows can also succeed, if the storyline is powerful and keeps people hooked. According to him, in today’s world of entertainment, good writing is everything.

His Role in Anupamaa

For those who don’t know, Manish Goel plays Raghav in Anupamaa, a popular daily soap produced by Rajan Shahi and headlined by Rupali Ganguly. The show also stars Adrija Roy, Shivam Khajuria, Alpana Buch, Rahil Azam, Zalak Desai, and many others in key roles.

Recently, with the entry of Manish Goel and Randeep Rai, the show has once again climbed to the top of the TRP charts, thanks to its gripping story and unexpected twists.
