Russell Brand Talk Canceled by Florida College Amid Charges

Russell Brand’s Legal Troubles Grow as Florida College Cancels His Talk Amid Assault Charges

Trigger Warning: This article mentions rape and sexual assault.

Comedian Russell Brand is facing more issues as his upcoming speech at a Florida college has been cancelled. The British actor and comedian was set to take part in a panel discussion on free speech and censorship at the New College of Florida, but the event has now been postponed due to ongoing assault allegations against him.

Why the Event Was Cancelled

Earlier this week, the college had confirmed that Brand would be joining their Socratic Stage series, which often hosts speakers to talk about important social and political issues. However, due to the controversy surrounding Brand, the school decided to cancel and reschedule his appearance.

According to a college spokesperson, the decision was due to “changes in event logistics.” But sources like TMZ suggest the cancellation came after the news of Brand’s appearance caused a lot of public attention.

The event’s official website now shows “TBD” (To Be Decided) where the date and details used to be. The session was titled “Thinking Without Permission: A Conversation with Russell Brand on Free Speech, Censorship, and Cultural Power.”

Allegations and Legal Cases

The Metropolitan Police in London have charged Russell Brand with sexual assault and rape in connection with incidents that reportedly happened between 1999 and 2005.

Brand has denied all the allegations. In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he said:

“I have never committed any non-consensual acts. I hope people will continue to believe in me.”

In addition to the UK case, a civil lawsuit has been filed against him in New York over behavior during the filming of the movie Arthur. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has announced that they will release some outtakes from the film.

His UK trial is scheduled for May 2.

College’s Statement

Though the college had expressed interest in hosting Brand, they now say they will welcome him at a later time — once the situation allows for a more meaningful and respectful conversation.

“We look forward to welcoming Mr. Brand to campus at a future date under conditions that allow for thoughtful and topical engagement from both the public and our academic community,” said a college representative.
