Melanie Hamrick Is Engaged to Mick Jagger, But She’s Not Planning a Wedding Anytime Soon
Mick Jagger and his longtime girlfriend Melanie Hamrick are engaged, but don’t expect a wedding just yet.
The Rolling Stones frontman, 81, and former ballerina, 37, have been engaged for a few years. Melanie recently confirmed the news publicly. But even though they’re engaged, getting married isn’t something they’re rushing into.
In an interview with the French magazine Paris Match on April 9, Melanie said, “We’ve been engaged for two or three years. Maybe we’ll get married one day, maybe not. We’re so happy with our life right now that I’m afraid to change anything.”
She also shared that the key to their relationship is supporting each other and focusing on each other’s happiness. “Making one another happy is the most important thing,” she said.
Mick and Melanie first met in 2014 while both were touring. They met backstage at a concert in Japan, but it wasn’t love at first sight. In fact, they didn’t even exchange phone numbers. Four months later, Mick invited Melanie to meet him in Zurich—and that’s when their romance began.
Their 44-year age gap has attracted attention, but Melanie isn’t bothered by people’s opinions. In an earlier interview with The Times, she said, “Everyone will have their opinions. If you think too much about what others think, you’ll only stress yourself out.”
Talking about the strength of their relationship, Melanie said, “We support each other, we’re there for each other, and we just want to be happy. That’s what matters most to me.”
In 2019, the couple worked together on a ballet performance called Porte Rouge, which featured Mick’s music and Melanie’s choreography. Melanie said it was a fun project, but now she prefers to keep her personal and professional lives separate.
Mick and Melanie also have a son together—Deveraux Octavian Basil—who was born in 2016.
