Udne Ki Aasha EXCLUSIVE: Kanwar Dhillon shares honest views on OTT and films – “I’d rather…”
In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, actor Kanwar Dhillon opened up about his thoughts on doing OTT shows and films. He also spoke about why his character Sachin Deshmukh from Udne Ki Aasha is connecting so well with the audience.
Kanwar is getting a lot of love for playing Sachin in Udne Ki Aasha. The show feels fresh and different because his character doesn’t follow the usual “TV hero” style. Talking about it, Kanwar said, “A show like Udne Ki Aasha is special because Sachin isn’t your typical lead. He’s real, layered, and raw – and that’s what excites me.”
He also praised television as a strong career choice. “No matter where you are in your career, TV will always be the safest option,” Kanwar said.
When asked about doing OTT or film projects, Kanwar was very clear. He said, “I welcome OTT and films, but I won’t do them just to appear on a big screen. The role must be meaningful and something I truly deserve.”
He added firmly:
“I’d rather be a successful TV actor than be an unsuccessful face in other mediums.”
Kanwar, who is known for his grounded nature, works almost 27–28 days a month. He shared how important it is to feel comfortable on set. Talking about his relationship with Alice Kaushik, his girlfriend, he said, “Your co-actors often become family. That’s how it happened with Alice during Pandya Store. We spent so much time together, and it just happened naturally.”
Outside of the shoot, Kanwar loves spending time in his makeup room. “It’s like my second home. I’ve set it up with soft lights and everything I need. It’s my peaceful space between hectic shoots,” he shared.
Kanwar is also proud of being a one-take actor but believes that acting is a skill you keep improving. “TV teaches you a lot. If you’ve trained in television, you can do well in any field,” he added.
In Udne Ki Aasha, Kanwar stars opposite Neha Harsora, and their on-screen chemistry along with the show’s strong story has made it a fan favorite.
