EXCLUSIVE: Priyanka Chopra’s mom Madhu Chopra shares how Priyanka bravely handled a director who asked for a private narration
Priyanka Chopra’s mother, Madhu Chopra, recently spoke about the early days of Priyanka’s career. In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, she shared a moment when a director asked for a private script narration, but Priyanka’s smart and bold reply left a strong message.
When asked if she ever faced any tough situations in the film industry because of Priyanka’s career, Madhu Chopra said, “No, I never had to face any difficult situation. Priyanka always made her own decisions.”
She then shared a specific incident, saying, “Once, during a narration, a director told me to wait outside so he could talk to Priyanka alone. But Priyanka immediately replied, ‘If you can’t say it in front of my mother, you think I’ll do this film? No, I won’t.’”
Madhu added that Priyanka walked out right after. “She never hesitated in saying no. She was always very clear in her mind, never afraid of losing a role, and always had a backup plan. She chose her path and followed it,” she said proudly.
Madhu Chopra also shared how she used to accompany Priyanka to her film sets in the beginning. Laughing, she said, “In the early days, I used to sit there like a witch guarding her! Like a watchwoman.”
She explained why she did that, saying, “Priyanka was very young, and she came from a very protective environment. We were outsiders, and based on everything we had heard about the industry, we knew we had to be careful. She was our only daughter — we couldn’t take any chances.”
Madhu summed it up perfectly: “If something is precious to you, only you can protect it. No assistant, agent, or secretary can do that like a parent can. That’s how I saw it.”
