EXCLUSIVE: Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankar to Star in Ginny Weds Sunny 2 — Not Vikrant Massey and Yami Gautam

The 2020 romantic comedy Ginny Weds Sunny, starring Vikrant Massey and Yami Gautam, won hearts with its fun story and charming chemistry. While the film was originally planned for theaters, it was released directly on OTT due to the pandemic and received a lot of love online.

Now, the makers are ready to bring a sequel — Ginny Weds Sunny 2. But this time, there’s a big twist: Vikrant and Yami won’t be returning. Instead, the lead roles will be played by Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankar.

A source close to the project revealed, “While Puneet Khanna directed the first film, the second part is being directed by Prasshant Jha. The script is ready, and the producers decided to go with a new lead pair for a fresh vibe. That’s why Avinash and Medha have been signed.”

This marks the first time Avinash and Medha will work together. Producer Vinod Bachchan was specifically looking for a new pairing to bring something different to the sequel. Like the first movie, this one will also feature a larger ensemble cast, and casting for the other characters will begin in the next few months.

Vinod Bachchan is also in talks with several studios and streaming platforms to finalize partnerships for the film.

Earlier, Pinkvilla reported that the makers want the sequel to be even more entertaining and emotional than the first. “We want to keep the fun spirit of Ginny Weds Sunny alive while exploring a new story,” a source from the production said. “Viewers can expect double the fun, more drama, and plenty of surprises.”
