Aishwarya Rai’s Witty Response on Indian Culture & Parental Respect

“We Don’t Need Appointments to Meet Our Parents” – Aishwarya Rai’s Smart Reply About Indian Culture Goes Viral Again

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, one of the most beautiful and talented stars in Bollywood, is known not just for her looks and acting, but also for her smart and graceful personality. One such moment that fans still remember fondly happened back in 2005, when Aishwarya appeared on The David Letterman Show in the U.S.

A Smart Reply About Indian Culture

During the interview, David Letterman asked Aishwarya if she lived with her parents, and she replied “Yes.” He then asked if it was common in India for children to live with their parents. Aishwarya gave a witty and confident reply with a smile, saying:

“It’s fine to live with your parents, because in India, we don’t need to take appointments to meet them for dinner.”

Her clever response received love from fans around the world and is still talked about today.

Talking About Indian Films and Music

At the time, Aishwarya was promoting her film Bride and Prejudice: The Bollywood Musical. In the same interview, she was also asked why musical films are so popular in India but not in America.

Aishwarya explained that Indian movies have always included music and dance, and people enjoy that format. She added that music is a big part of Indian culture:

“We’ve grown up with this. In India, we have songs for every celebration—festivals, weddings, and more.”

Aishwarya’s Recent Appearance at Cannes 2025

Fast forward to May 21, 2025, Aishwarya made her much-anticipated appearance at the Cannes Film Festival. She looked stunning in a traditional saree, but what caught everyone’s attention was the sindoor (vermilion) on her forehead, which is traditionally worn by married Hindu women.

This small detail shut down recent rumors about her separation from her husband, Abhishek Bachchan.

Aishwarya’s Recent Work

On the work front, Aishwarya was last seen in the 2023 Tamil film series Ponniyin Selvan, directed by Mani Ratnam. The film also starred Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, and others. It’s been seven years since she acted in a Bollywood movie.
