Anupamaa: Official Statement Released About Crew Member’s Tragic Death on Set
A tragic incident occurred on the set of the popular TV show Anupamaa on November 14, 2024, resulting in the death of a crew member. The production houses, Director’s Kut Production and Shahi Production Pvt. Ltd., have now released an official statement addressing the unfortunate event.
What Happened
The incident took place at Film City, Mumbai, when Ajit Kumar, an apprentice camera attendant, suffered a fatal electric shock. According to the statement, Ajit, who was sent by the camera vendor, accidentally handled a light rod and camera at the same time without wearing footwear. This led to an electric shock. Despite immediate medical attention and hospitalization, Ajit sadly passed away.
The Director of Photography (DOP) on set described the incident as a tragic “human error.”
The official statement reads:
“An unfortunate accident happened on November 14, 2024, during the shooting of the TV serial Anupamaa at Film City. Apprentice camera attendant Mr. Ajit Kumar, sent by the camera vendor, mistakenly handled both the light rod and camera together without wearing footwear and received an electric shock. Despite immediate medical help, we lost him. The DOP confirmed it was purely a human error.”
Support for Ajit Kumar’s Family
The production house expressed their deep sorrow over Ajit Kumar’s passing and took immediate steps to support his family. These included:
- Arranging flight tickets for his relatives from Patna.
- Completing all legal formalities.
- Covering hospital and medical expenses.
- Ensuring his family’s safe return to Patna.
- Providing financial compensation.
They also assured that insurance benefits would be disbursed directly to Ajit’s nominated beneficiary.
Commitment to Crew Safety
In their statement, the makers emphasized their dedication to providing a safe and respectful work environment for their crew. They called Ajit a valued member of their extended family and shared their grief over his loss.
Warning Against False Rumors
The production houses also addressed rumors circulating about the incident. They issued a stern warning to those spreading misinformation, stating they would take legal action if necessary.
“We request rumormongers to stop spreading false information. Failing this, we will take strict legal action as per the law. We have also informed producers’ bodies and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) about the incident.”

The statement concluded with heartfelt condolences to Ajit Kumar’s family and a commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of all crew members going forward.
