She revealed that she chose not to pursue films because of the presence of the casting couch in the industry at the time. Rupali said, “I didn’t do well in films, and that was a choice I made because the casting couch was common in the industry back then. Maybe some people didn’t experience it, but I did, and I chose not to go down that path. Because of that, people considered me a failure, especially since I come from a film family.
The Sarabhai vs Sarabhai actress went on to talk about how hard it was to be judged for working in television. People around her would make hurtful comments about her career, which made her feel small at the time. She shared, “Back then, it was tough. I did feel small when people looked down on me, but today, I am very proud. Anupamaa has given me the recognition and position I always dreamed of. It changed my life, and I am so thankful to God and my father for that.”
Rupali also talked about how, before taking on the role of Anupamaa, she had doubts about whether she could fit the part. She even asked the producers if she needed to slim down for the role. However, they reassured her that they were looking for someone to play a mother, not a typical heroine.
