Cannes Film Festival EXCLUSIVE: When Helly Shah Opened Up About Not Being Invited to the Indian Pavilion
As the Cannes Film Festival 2025 is happening now, let’s take a look back at when popular TV actress Helly Shah attended the festival in 2022 and spoke about not getting an invite to the Indian Pavilion.
This year’s Cannes Film Festival began on May 13 and will run for 12 days. Many Indian celebrities are attending this big international event to celebrate movies from around the world.
Back in 2022, Helly Shah made her debut at Cannes. In an interview with Pinkvilla, she was asked whether she was invited to the Indian Pavilion and how she felt about it.
Helly replied, “Yes, Hina Khan spoke about it. I also wasn’t invited. But if I had been invited, I would have felt very happy and proud to represent my country.”
The Ishq Mein Marjawan 2 actress added, “It was my first time at Cannes, and the experience was completely new. Honestly, I didn’t feel bad or disappointed. I didn’t think, ‘Oh no, I wasn’t invited.’ But yes, going to the Indian Pavilion on the first day would have felt really nice.”
She also shared a special moment from Cannes — meeting Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. Helly said she even had a 10-15 minute chat with Abhishek about sports and called it a “wonderful experience.”

She has acted in shows like Alaxmi – Humari Super Bahu, Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi, Swaragini – Jodein Rishton Ke Sur, Devanshi, Ishq Mein Marjawan 2, and more. Currently, she is playing the lead role of Kajal Thakkar in Zyada Mat Udd.
