CID’s Shivaji Satam Defends Sanjay Dutt: ‘Innocent’ Amid 1993 Bomb Blasts Controversy

Shivaji Satam, famous for his role as ACP Pradyuman in the popular TV show CID, recently shared a memory about working with Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt. In an interview with Friday Talkies, Shivaji talked about how Sanjay opened up to him during the tough time when he was dealing with the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case.

Shivaji and Sanjay worked together in the 1999 film Vaastav, where Shivaji played the role of Sanjay’s character Raghu’s father. Before this, they had worked on another film where Sanjay made a special appearance. Shivaji remembered that while filming, Sanjay would come to the set late at night, often around 2 AM, after spending his days attending court hearings related to the case.

Shivaji recalled, “Sanju is innocent. He never acted like a big star, even back then.” He also mentioned how one day during the shooting of Vaastav, Sanjay opened up to him. “He is very vulnerable,” Shivaji said. “I remember he told me, ‘Shiva, what can I do? This situation came up, and now I’m stuck.’ I would reassure him, ‘Baba, nothing will happen, just stay the way you are.'”

Shivaji, who worked with Sanjay on four or five films, praised him as a kind and big-hearted person. He also shared a fond memory of Sanjay inviting some friends over while he was cooking mutton at home. During that visit, Shivaji admired Sanjay’s new, stylish cellphone. After lunch, Sanjay removed the SIM card and gave the phone to Shivaji as a gift.

For those who don’t know, Sanjay Dutt was accused in connection with the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, where 12 explosions occurred in a single day, causing many casualties. Though Sanjay was cleared of the bombing charges, he was sentenced to six years in prison for possessing illegal weapons. Sanjay has always maintained that he was wrongly involved in the case.
