Back in 2009, Shah Rukh Khan had plans to make a sequel to his hit show Fauji, with Pulkit Samrat in the lead role. Here’s why it never happened.
In an announcement on October 15, 2024, filmmaker Sandeep Singh shared that Fauji 2 would be airing on Doordarshan, starring Vikas Jain and Gauahar Khan. But long before this, in 2009, there were talks of making a sequel with Pulkit Samrat. He was supposed to play the son of Shah Rukh Khan’s character from the original Fauji series, which was SRK’s big break.
Shah Rukh Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, was ready to make Fauji 2 with Pulkit Samrat and actress Roopal Tyagi. Pulkit even filmed scenes with SRK himself. He described meeting Shah Rukh as a “surreal” experience. “I was playing his son in the sequel to Fauji, and that’s how I got the chance to work with him. It was unbelievable! As someone from Delhi following in SRK’s footsteps, playing his son on screen was a dream come true,” Pulkit shared with India Today.
Pulkit added that Shah Rukh Khan was very kind and humble. “He shared some of his acting tips with me. He taught me how to take control of a set and make use of the space as an actor. His advice and warmth still mean a lot to me, but sadly, the show never happened,” the Fukrey actor said.
Roopal Tyagi, who is known for her roles in Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke and Humari Betiyoon Ka Vivah, also talked about meeting Shah Rukh. She remembered how he kissed everyone’s forehead and wished them luck, hoping that Fauji 2 would be as successful for them as Fauji 1 was for him.
For those who don’t know, Shah Rukh Khan played Lt. Abhimanyu Rai in the 1989 series Fauji. The show had 13 episodes and was about the training of Indian Army commandos.
Now, talking about the upcoming Fauji 2, Sandeep Singh has partnered with Doordarshan. The show will feature Bigg Boss 17 star Vikas Jain as Colonel Sanjay Singh and Gauahar Khan as Lieutenant Colonel Simarjeet Kaur. The series, directed by Abhinav Pareek, will air in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Bengali. The release date is yet to be revealed.
