Ganpati Bappa Morya!
It’s that time of the year when the entire nation celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi, with people bringing Ganpati idols home and dedicating time to prayers and festivities. On this special occasion, Pinkvilla spoke with Sumeet Raghavan, known for playing Rajesh in Wagle Ki Duniya. He shared that he won’t be bringing a Ganpati idol home this year and talked about what he loves most about the festival.
Sumeet said, “This year, we are not bringing Ganpati Bappa home. My father-in-law started the tradition, and we continued for eleven years, but it’s not a strict rule for us. We have a silver idol of Ganesh Ji at home, and we are very mindful of eco-friendly practices.”
He added, “Usually, we keep a small, eco-friendly Ganpati for a day and a half, but this year, we decided not to because things are very busy.”
The actor from Holiday also shared his favorite parts of Ganpati celebrations: “I love the modak and the beautifully decorated pandals. I always make time to visit my friends during their Ganpati celebrations, even adjusting my shoot schedules around it. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s great to catch up with everyone. While I don’t make anything myself, I really enjoy all the food that’s prepared.”
Speaking about the emotional experience of bidding farewell to Ganpati, Sumeet, who also starred in Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai, said, “Saying goodbye to Ganpati Bappa is always a sad moment. He feels more like a family member than just an idol, so it’s really emotional when it’s time for Visarjan. It’s always a bittersweet moment.”
