Gurucharan Singh, who is widely recognized for playing Roshan Singh Sodhi in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, recently caught attention after mysteriously disappearing for a few weeks and then reappearing. In a candid interview, Gurucharan talked about several controversies surrounding the popular show, including his sudden replacement and the ongoing conflict between Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal and producer Asit Kumarr Modi.
Gurucharan Singh on Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal and Asit Kumarr Modi’s Dispute
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Gurucharan Singh shared his efforts to mediate the conflict between his former co-star Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal and the show’s producer, Asit Kumarr Modi. He revealed that he tried to bring both parties together to resolve their differences. “I did everything I could to make sure they could meet, sit down, and work things out,” he said. Unfortunately, his efforts were unsuccessful because Asit Modi wasn’t willing to reconcile, even though Jennifer was open to discussing the situation.
For those who might not know, Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal filed a police complaint against Asit Kumarr Modi, accusing him of inappropriate behavior.
Gurucharan Singh on Being Replaced Without Notice
Gurucharan also spoke about his unexpected replacement from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah back in 2012. When asked why he left the show, returned, and then left again in 2020, Gurucharan explained that his first exit wasn’t his choice. “In 2012, they replaced me; I didn’t leave. There were some contract discussions, and due to some issues with the agreement, they replaced me without telling me,” he shared.
He recalled the moment he found out about his replacement: “I was in Delhi with my family, watching Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. The episode had Dharmendra promoting one of his films. I was excited to see him, but then I was shocked when a new actor appeared as Sodhi. I was completely surprised.”
Gurucharan mentioned that fans were upset with his sudden replacement and asked him to return to the show. After talking with Asit Modi’s wife, he made a comeback as Roshan Singh Sodhi but eventually left the show again in 2020.

When talking about the working environment on the set of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Gurucharan stressed the importance of open communication to resolve conflicts and keep a healthy work atmosphere. While he didn’t directly call the environment toxic, he suggested that issues should be openly discussed to prevent them from affecting the show.
When asked about comments made by Priya Ahuja and Malav Rajda regarding the non-family-like atmosphere on set, Gurucharan admitted, “To a large extent, they are right.”
