In the latest episode of Indian Idol 15, singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya was a special guest, along with music composer Lalit Pandit. The two got into a fun conversation on stage, which led to some interesting revelations.
During the episode, Abhijeet shared a memory from the recording of the song I Am The Best for the movie Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani. He recalled how he suggested that Shah Rukh Khan should record the last part of the song, where he sings, “Oh yes yes, I am the best.” Abhijeet even mentioned that after he recorded his part, Shah Rukh Khan was called in and, within an hour, recorded his portion of the song.
However, as soon as Abhijeet claimed the idea was his, Lalit Pandit, who composed the song with his brother Jatin Pandit, interrupted with a playful correction. He said, “Arrey bhaiya, mein jab baitha hu, tab toh mat phenk,” which roughly translates to, “Don’t lie while I’m sitting here!” Lalit clarified that it was Shah Rukh’s idea to record the last portion of the song.
Abhijeet responded, “Maine phenka? (Did I lie?)” Lalit then went on to explain how Shah Rukh Khan was present at the recording and kept suggesting ways to make the last part of the song sound better. After several attempts by Abhijeet, Shah Rukh decided to step in and recorded the portion in just one take, as he knew exactly how he wanted it.
Lalit added, “Shah Rukh kept saying ask him to do it a certain way. Do you remember we had some problem with the ‘I am the best’ part? We kept rehearsing it more and more. Then Shah Rukh said, ‘I will only do this last bit.’ So I said, ‘Yes, please, go and do it,’ and he did it in one take. He knew the style he wanted it in, so it was simple for him.”
For those who don’t know, Indian Idol 15 is judged by Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, and Badshah. It’s a fun mix of music, entertainment, and celebrity appearances, and this episode was no exception!
