Cannes 2025: Ishaan Khatter says he didn’t want to attend the festival just as a guest
Ishaan Khatter is all set to walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, and he’s doing it for all the right reasons. The young actor is making his Cannes debut not just to show off stylish outfits or attend parties—but to represent his new film, Homebound.
In a recent chat with Mid-Day, Ishaan shared that he had always dreamed of going to an international film festival with a movie of his own. “Cannes is about cinema first,” he said. “I never wanted to go just as an attendee. I wanted to be there with a film.” Now, that dream is coming true.
Homebound selected at Cannes
Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan (known for Masaan), has been selected for the prestigious Un Certain Regard section at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. This is a big achievement for the team and especially for Ishaan, who says this is the most challenging role he’s done so far.
On Instagram, he shared his excitement:
“A film I knew was special from the moment it came into my life. It’s my most challenging part yet. This is what dreams are made of—pure intention, hard work, and truth. I’m so proud to be part of this journey.”
Martin Scorsese joins the team
The excitement didn’t stop there. Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese has come on board as the executive producer of Homebound. Ishaan called it “the honor of a lifetime,” adding:
“This is a dream come true in the most unbelievable way. Thank you, Martin Scorsese, for guiding our film with your wisdom and support. It means more than words can express.”
Star-studded cast and crew
Homebound also features Janhvi Kapoor—who starred with Ishaan in Dhadak—and Vishal Jethwa. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra.
With Homebound premiering at Cannes, Ishaan isn’t just making a fashion statement—he’s making a big move as an actor. His dream of representing Indian cinema on a global stage is finally becoming real.
