Kapil Sharma’s The Great Indian Kapil Show Faces Legal Notice for Alleged Disrespect Towards Rabindranath Tagore
The popular comedy show The Great Indian Kapil Show, hosted by Kapil Sharma, has recently received a legal notice dated November 1. The notice claims that the show disrespected Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and portrayed the Bengali community in an offensive way.
The complaint was filed by Dr. Mondal, President of the Bongo Bhashi Mahasabha Foundation (BBMF), with help from legal advisor Nripendra Krishna Roy. The BBMF’s notice mentions certain scenes in the show that, according to them, disrespect Tagore and may offend Bengalis around the world. Dr. Mondal shared his disappointment, saying the show’s portrayal of Bengali culture hurt their cultural and religious feelings.
In response, the show’s creators clarified that their goal was never to misrepresent Tagore or offend any community. They explained that The Great Indian Kapil Show is purely a comedy platform, meant for lighthearted entertainment through fictional sketches and parodies. They emphasized that the show has always aimed to bring humor without intentionally targeting anyone or any community.
Meanwhile, actor Salman Khan, who was rumored to be involved with the show through his production company SKTV, has distanced himself from the controversy. His legal team issued a statement confirming that neither he nor SKTV is connected to The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix and that they have not received any legal notice related to it.
The Great Indian Kapil Show 2, featuring Kapil Sharma, Krushna Abhishek, Sunil Grover, Rajiv Thakur, Kiiku Sharda, and Archana Puran Singh, continues to air every Saturday at 8 PM.
