Kate Beckinsale Sues ‘Canary Black’ Producers for Making Her Do Dangerous Stunts Against Doctor’s Advice
Actress Kate Beckinsale has filed a lawsuit against the makers of her action movie Canary Black, claiming they forced her to do risky stunts even after her doctor told her not to. She says the production team ignored her injury and put her health at risk.
What the Lawsuit Says
Beckinsale is suing producer John Zois and the production company Anton Entertainment Media Services, Inc. for being careless, causing harm, and emotional stress. The film, directed by Taken filmmaker Pierre Morel, came out on October 3, 2024. However, her legal fight began quietly in December 2024, when she filed the case under the name “Jane Doe,” according to Puck.
On May 21, 2025, she updated the complaint, revealing her real name and explaining the details of her injury and how she was treated on set.
What Happened on Set?
Beckinsale got hurt in December 2022 while filming stunts for Canary Black. She tore the meniscus in her left knee — a serious knee injury. After surgery and a delay in filming, her doctor, Dr. Jason Snibbe, told her she should not run, jump, squat, kick, or do any activity where she’s suspended.
But according to the lawsuit, the producers ignored the doctor’s advice. They made her return to filming without adjusting the stunts or giving her enough time to train. She was reportedly made to work 15-hour days, with poor medical support and little warning about the stunts she had to perform.

Warnings Were Ignored
Her team kept raising safety concerns. They said there were no clear plans for stunt work and not enough time for her body to recover. Her agent, Shani Rosenzweig, even sent a strong email to producer John Zois, saying:
“If you’re trying to kill a person, you’re doing a great job.”
Zois reportedly replied, but the risky work conditions didn’t change.
Because of this, Beckinsale says her injuries got worse, and the pain could have been avoided if the team had followed her doctor’s instructions.
What Her Lawyers Say
Her lawyers, Marty Singer and Brian Panish, claim that the producers put money over safety. They believe the team cared more about finishing the movie than about protecting Beckinsale’s health.
So far, no official comments have been made by either Beckinsale’s team or the producers.
