On the September 9 episode, Amitabh Bachchan asked Sumitra a question about a movie featuring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev. The question was, “Which number is seen in the title of the movie starring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev?” The options were:
A) 75
B) 79
C) 83
D) 87
Sumitra confidently chose Option C, which was the correct answer. Big B complimented her, saying, “You have a lot of knowledge about cricket.”
For those unfamiliar, 83, directed by Kabir Khan, is a sports drama about India’s first Cricket World Cup win in 1983. Ranveer Singh plays the role of legendary Indian captain Kapil Dev, who led the team to victory against the West Indies.
After Sumitra answered, Amitabh asked how she knew the answer so quickly. She revealed that she loves cricket. When Amitabh asked if she had seen 83, Sumitra said she had only watched the promo. Bachchan Sahab humorously questioned why she didn’t go to the movie with her husband. Sumitra explained that her husband isn’t interested in the movies she enjoys.
In a playful moment, Amitabh addressed Sumitra’s husband, saying, “I request you to go watch movies with her. After all, the person talking to you right now is part of the film industry!”
Sumitra lives in Surat, Gujarat, with her husband and daughter. A B.Com graduate, her husband works as a rickshaw driver. Sumitra’s goal for coming on KBC was to win enough money to help her husband repay the loan he took to buy their home.
