Kuberaa vs Coolie: Nagarjuna Akkineni Shares How Directors Lokesh Kanagaraj and Sekhar Kammula Work Differently
Veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni is getting ready for the release of his upcoming movie Kuberaa, where he stars alongside Dhanush. As the film is set to release on June 20, 2025, Nagarjuna spoke about the difference between working with Lokesh Kanagaraj (director of Coolie) and Sekhar Kammula (director of Kuberaa).
In an interview with Galatta Plus, Nagarjuna shared that while both directors communicate well, their styles of filmmaking are very different.
He explained, “Sekhar Kammula focuses on keeping everything real — from clothes to hairstyles and how characters behave. But Lokesh Kanagaraj loves big, dramatic cinema — and I really enjoy that kind of film.”
Nagarjuna gave an example:
“Sekhar would tell me, ‘Nag, you’re walking too much like a hero. Tone it down.’ He would even ask me to hunch a bit to look more real.
But Lokesh would say, ‘Sir, walk in like a tiger. I want people to feel your power the moment you enter the room.’”
Nagarjuna said Kammula’s style is all about natural and realistic acting, while Lokesh likes to create a powerful and heroic image, even with just a camera angle.
About the Movies
Kuberaa is a social thriller. It follows the story of a beggar who gets caught in a web of lies created by a corrupt chartered accountant (CA). But things turn around when the beggar uses his intelligence to outsmart the CA. The rest of the movie is a battle of wits between the two.
The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh, Dilip Tahil, and others in important roles.
Coolie, on the other hand, is a full-on action entertainer led by superstar Rajinikanth. It features Nagarjuna Akkineni and Upendra Rao in major roles, and Aamir Khan will appear in a special cameo.
The cast also includes Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, and more. Coolie is set to release on August 14, 2025, and will clash at the box office with War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.
