Nakuul Mehta Pens Emotional Poem for Vinesh Phogat After Her Retirement from Wrestling

Nakuul Mehta, a well-known and talented actor in the Indian entertainment industry, recently shared a heartfelt poem dedicated to wrestler Vinesh Phogat. The Ishqbaaz actor posted this tribute on social media, celebrating Phogat’s incredible journey and her unbreakable spirit.

On his X (formerly Twitter) account, Nakuul wrote, “Fighter. Olympian. Champion. A poem dedicated to one of our all-time greatest. The one and only Vinesh Phogat. ‘ख़ूब लड़ी मर्दानी’ (She fought valiantly).”

In the video that accompanied his post, Nakuul recites the poem, which beautifully captures Vinesh Phogat’s strength and resilience throughout her career. He begins with the lines, “Vinesh, if we hadn’t seen you fight, from the grounds of Jantar Mantar to the arenas of Paris, we might never have realized how deceiving these gold and silver medals can be. They lack the brilliance of your spirit and strength.”

He continues, “Talking about your wrestling hardly does it justice. The real measure of it was in the eyes of Yui Susaki. Ask that Japanese girl who lay on the mat; she will tell you. Lions don’t measure their worth by scales. Even without gold or silver, you are an example, Vinesh.”

Through the poem, Nakuul emphasizes that Vinesh Phogat’s true value goes beyond medals and awards. He ends with a heartfelt message, affirming Phogat’s special place in the hearts of her supporters, regardless of official recognition.

He concludes, “Cheer up, champion. Medals will come and go, but you are our true treasure. So what if your name isn’t in the Olympic records? Future generations will remember how fiercely you fought.”

This touching tribute comes after Vinesh Phogat announced her sudden retirement on August 8, 2024. The Indian wrestler retired after being disqualified from the gold medal match at the Paris Olympics 2024 for being 100 grams over the weight limit in the 50 kg freestyle category. Her emotional retirement post on social media left fans across India heartbroken, and Nakuul Mehta’s poem serves as a powerful reminder of the legacy she leaves behind.
