NHRC Asks YouTube to Remove ‘Obscene’ Episode of Samay Raina’s Show Amid Ranveer Allahbadia Controversy
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has stepped in amid the growing controversy surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia’s offensive remark on Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent. The commission has asked YouTube to take down the episode, calling it vulgar and inappropriate.
What Did NHRC Say?
According to The Hindu, NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo has sent a letter to Mira Chatt, YouTube’s Public Policy Head, asking the platform to remove the controversial video featuring Ranveer Allahbadia.
- The letter states that NHRC received a complaint from Yogendra Singh Thakur, who claimed that India’s Got Latent promotes obscene and inappropriate content that is harmful to Indian society.
- The commission also raised concerns that such misleading content, disguised as free speech, could negatively impact people’s thinking.
- Kanoongo urged YouTube to immediately delete the episode and also submit details of the channel and the specific videos to the police for further investigation.
Why Is Ranveer Allahbadia in Trouble?
The controversy started when Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, asked a contestant on India’s Got Latent:
“Would you rather watch your parents have sx every day for the rest of your life, or join in once and stop it forever?”*
This inappropriate question shocked the audience and led to widespread backlash from the public, politicians, and celebrities.
FIR Filed Against Multiple People
Due to this incident, an FIR was registered against not just Ranveer Allahbadia, but also:
- Samay Raina, the host of India’s Got Latent
- The show’s organizers
- Social media influencer Apoorva Makhija (also known as The Rebel Kid), who was on the panel during the episode
Ranveer Allahbadia’s Apology
