Niki Walia Recalls Horrific Accident and Shah Rukh Khan’s Heartwarming Support
Actress Niki Aneja Walia recently opened up about a traumatic accident she experienced while shooting for the TV show Gharwali Uparwali in 2000. In an emotional interview, she shared how Shah Rukh Khan supported her during that difficult time and even visited her at the hospital late at night.
The Accident on Set
Niki revealed that during the shoot, a junior artist, who had just learned to drive, was asked to perform a car scene on a bridge in Film City. For the shot, Niki had to stand as if waiting for her on-screen husband’s car. However, the junior artist failed to stop the car on time and ended up driving over her.
Recalling the horrifying incident, she said, “My right hand was injured, and I could feel my ear peeling off my body.” She explained that in trying to protect her face, she got stuck under the car and was dragged a distance before it finally stopped.
The Aftermath
Niki suffered severe injuries and was hospitalized for over a month. She described how she was in a delirious state from the pain and medication. One night, to her surprise, she woke up to see Shah Rukh Khan sitting by her hospital bed.
At first, Niki thought she was hallucinating. “I woke up and saw Shah Rukh sitting there. I thought it was the medication playing tricks on me.” However, Shah Rukh gently reassured her, saying, “Niki, it’s Shah. I’m sorry for coming so late, but there was paparazzi outside. I waited for them to leave so I could visit you.”
Shah Rukh comforted her, held her hand, and even caressed her hair while asking if she needed anything.
Shah Rukh’s Insight
During the visit, Shah Rukh asked Niki, “Were you hit by a red Maruti van?” When she confirmed, he explained how he had seen the same van earlier at Film City. The actor recounted how he had noticed the junior artist learning to drive the car while Shah Rukh was on his way to the set of Devdas. He had to wait for 10 minutes because the road was blocked by the training session.
Shah Rukh also informed her that the production crew had allowed someone inexperienced to drive, which led to the accident. He advised Niki to sue the production house for their negligence.
Gratitude for Shah Rukh
Niki shared how deeply moved she was by Shah Rukh’s gesture and his genuine concern. “He didn’t have to do that, but he did. My respect for him grew so much more because of his kindness.”
