Nimrat Kaur Credits Irrfan Khan for Changing Her Life After The Lunchbox

“I was taken seriously because of Irrfan Khan”: Nimrat Kaur Shares How Questions About Marriage Stopped After The Lunchbox

Actress Nimrat Kaur recently opened up about how people used to constantly ask her about marriage—until her film The Lunchbox came out in 2013. After the film’s success, those questions stopped, and she finally felt seen and respected in the industry. Nimrat believes a big part of that change happened because she worked alongside the legendary actor Irrfan Khan.

People Stopped Asking About Marriage After The Lunchbox

In an interview with Showsha, Nimrat said she’s always been comfortable being single. But in her late 20s, people around her started asking when she would settle down and get married.

That changed after The Lunchbox. The movie not only brought her recognition but also made people take her and her work seriously. She said that because Irrfan Khan was part of the film, people finally started respecting her.

“I Wasn’t Taken Seriously Before That”

Before The Lunchbox, Nimrat said she felt like people didn’t value her work enough. Many would just say, “It’s time to get married.” But once the film was released and praised, those same people started seeing her in a different light.

“Marriage Isn’t the Only Way to Be Settled”

Nimrat also spoke about society’s belief that a woman is only “settled” if she’s married. She shared how, when she first moved to Mumbai before 2005, people assumed she’d go back home soon and live a “normal” life expected of a woman.

But Nimrat made it clear she would rather wait for the right relationship than rush into a marriage that doesn’t feel real. She’s seen many unhappy or fake marriages, and she believes those can leave people more disturbed than being single ever could.

“Let Me Be”

Nimrat said people should stop pushing their personal beliefs on others. Many times, it’s those who couldn’t make bold choices in their own lives who try to control others. She urged everyone to let people, especially women, live life on their own terms.
