Ranveer Allahbadia Controversy: Parliament May Summon YouTuber BeerBiceps Over Vulgar Remark
A Parliamentary committee on Information Technology is considering summoning YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, over a controversial remark he made on Samay Raina’s YouTube show, India’s Got Latent.
Why Is Parliament Involved?
Several Members of Parliament (MPs) and complaints from the public have raised concerns about the remark. Sources suggest that the committee might send a notice to Ranveer Allahbadia, asking him to explain his statement. There is also a chance that YouTube may face action for allowing such content on its platform.
MPs Call for Stricter Rules
BJD MP Sasmit Patra and Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, both members of the IT panel, have strongly opposed the content.
- Sasmit Patra stressed the need for stricter guidelines to prevent such offensive remarks, especially since YouTubers have a huge influence on young viewers.
- “It is extremely unfortunate… We need stronger rules to control such inappropriate remarks,” he said.
- Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized the use of abusive language in the name of comedy. She pointed out that Ranveer Allahbadia has a massive following and has even been recognized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- “Any abusive language in the name of comedy is unacceptable. He has millions of subscribers and has even hosted top politicians. The Prime Minister himself awarded him,” she stated.
What Led to the Controversy?
For those unaware, the controversy started when Ranveer Allahbadia asked an inappropriate and offensive question on India’s Got Latent.
The question was:
“Would you rather watch your parents have s*x every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”
This shocked fellow guests on the show, including Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Makhija.
Public Backlash and Apology
The video went viral, sparking outrage. Many called for responsible content creation, criticizing Allahbadia for using vulgarity as humor. After facing severe backlash, he issued a public apology.
Allahbadia is a well-known content creator with 4.5 million Instagram followers and over 10 million YouTube subscribers. Last year, he was honored at the National Creators Awards.
With Parliament stepping in, it remains to be seen what action will be taken against him and YouTube.
