Recently, Rupali Ganguly has been in the spotlight because of a family dispute involving her stepdaughter, Esha Verma. After Esha made allegations against her, Rupali responded by filing a defamation case, demanding Rs 50 crore in compensation. Actress Payal Rohatgi criticized Rupali for this move, questioning why she asked for such a large amount from her 26-year-old stepdaughter.
Payal, known from Lock Upp, also pointed out that Rupali chose to date and marry Ashwin (Esha’s father), despite knowing he was already married. In an Instagram post, Payal suggested that Rupali’s current issues with Esha might be “karma” for her actions in the past. She said that instead of demanding such a huge sum, Rupali should simply settle the matter in court with evidence. Payal even asked if Rupali is “broke” to demand such a high amount.
Payal’s note read, “Whatever your truth is, Rupali, you married a man who was married when you met him. It’s called karma when the daughter of his earlier wife has her own perspective. Figure it out in court with your proof. But why are you asking for such a big amount in defamation? Are you broke? Do you even understand what Rs 50 crore means while working in serials?”
In a conversation with NDTV, Rupali Ganguly’s lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, explained the reasoning behind the Rs 50 crore demand. Sana shared that Esha’s accusations have hurt Rupali both personally and professionally, causing emotional pain and damage to her reputation.
Following the defamation notice, Esha deleted her Twitter account, removed the critical posts, and switched her account to private, going incognito on social media.
