Preity Zinta Opens Up About Her First Love — And There’s a Kal Ho Naa Ho Connection
Preity Zinta recently shared a touching story about her first love, and it has a strong connection to her popular movie Kal Ho Naa Ho, which also starred Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan.
The emotional film, especially the scene where Shah Rukh Khan’s character Aman dies, is still loved by many fans. During a Q&A session on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on May 13, Preity answered fan questions — and one reply revealed something very personal.
A fan tweeted, “@realpreityzinta ma’am, every time I watch Kal Ho Naa Ho, I cry like a kid. You were amazing as Naina. I also learned that sometimes love means letting go.”
Preity responded warmly. She agreed that the film brings tears to her eyes too, both now and back when they were filming it. She then shared something from her own life: she had lost her first love in a car accident around the same time they were shooting the movie.
She wrote, “Yes, I cry when I watch it, and I cried while we were filming it too! My first love died in a car crash, so this film always felt very personal. Fun fact — most of the emotional scenes were real. The actors cried naturally. During Aman’s death scene, everyone, on and off camera, was crying.”
Kal Ho Naa Ho was directed by Nikkhil Advani and starred Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, and Jaya Bachchan. It’s known for its emotional story and beautiful music.
Right now, Preity is busy with the IPL, as she co-owns the Punjab Kings cricket team. She is also preparing for her return to the big screen in the film Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol. The movie, set during the India–Pakistan partition, is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan’s production house. It is expected to release in August 2025.
