Raghu Ram Speaks Out After Recording Statement in India’s Got Latent Controversy
Former panelist Raghu Ram has spoken up about the ongoing controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent. He said he has no regrets about being part of the show but also apologized for hurting people’s sentiments.
Raghu Ram’s Statement
The controversy around India’s Got Latent is growing, with several people accused of breaking social norms. Along with Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Apurva Mukhija, and Ashish Chanchlani, Raghu Ram was also called to the police station for questioning. On February 13, the Maharashtra Cyber Police recorded his statement regarding the show.
Afterward, Raghu Ram took to Instagram to share his thoughts. He wrote, “I do not regret being part of IGL.” However, he admitted that some jokes from the show may have been inappropriate. “A paying audience at a live show and a larger YouTube audience have different sensibilities. I might have removed some jokes from the episode, but I had no say in what jokes were kept or censored. That decision was up to Samay and the makers, and I believe they took it seriously.”
Raghu also defended free speech, saying, “Freedom of speech is meaningless without the freedom to offend. People often take offense even when none is intended.”
Apology and Response to Media Reports
Despite his stance on free speech, Raghu still apologized to anyone who felt hurt. “Of course, I’m sorry if I have actually caused anyone pain,” he said. He also clarified that comedians aim to push boundaries but do not intend to harm.
In his Instagram caption, the MTV Roadies fame criticized media coverage of the controversy. “The news is reporting the IGL investigation in its own way. My statements are being twisted to sound different. Since their version is out, I want to share mine too.”
What Started the Controversy?
The issue began when Ranveer Allahbadia asked inappropriate questions to a contestant on India’s Got Latent. Although the show had already faced criticism, the backlash intensified after his comments, leading to public outrage.
As a result, multiple FIRs were filed against those involved in the show, and social media was flooded with criticism. Samay Raina later removed all episodes of the show from YouTube. The legal proceedings in this matter are still ongoing.
